Home Exterior Painting Reveal: Quest for the Perfect Gray

The blogger used the Benjamin Moore color matched at Sherwin-Williams to renovate the exterior wall color. At that time, the blogger determined that the color was 75% Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal.

The blogger found a trio of painters in a local small paint company. They called the blogger and said that the work would start on the morning of May 21st.

On the morning of May 21st, the trio began to pressure wash the walls and began to caulk all nail holes, joints and other gaps. But a storm suddenly hit soon after, and the trio had to put down their work.

Later, they came a second time, and the trio began to tape all the windows, etc., so that they could start painting. When the blogger came back from work that day, he saw the changes in the house from a distance. At that time, the blogger thought that the color was much darker than he expected.

When the staff packed up and left, the blogger went to check the house and thought that the color of the house should not be so dark. Then he saw a paint bucket next to the house. The blogger walked closer to see that the color was indeed Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal But I didn't see 75%, and I didn't see what the small samples in the paint store looked like at that time.

After the blogger sent a photo of the paint bucket note to the owner of the paint company, the owner called the blogger back a few minutes later and said that the employees of the Sherwin-Williams store said they mixed the SuperPaint formula into full-strength Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal. The trio also didn't double-check whether it was the correct color before starting work. At that time, the blogger thought the color was also good but thought it was a little too dark.

The SW store then remixed the correct 75% strength color, and the staff fixed it afterwards.

The next day the crew did repaint everything. It was the color I had envisioned. Everything looked fresher and cleaner when the house was finished.

Real house colors are tricky to capture in photos, as most grays will show different colors depending on the angle and lighting. Since the front of my house faces north, it looks darker due to the shadows. I also really like how their greenery looks against the gray walls.

It rained heavily that night and I was worried that the new paint would be washed off. But in the morning everything was intact without any streaks.

Despite the hot weather that day, the crew came back to do the finishing touches and also painted the windows and surrounding metal on the back of the house to make the railings look like new.

I am very excited about the transformation of my house. The impact of my house is not just the updated color, but the satin sheen that the previously faded paint lacked. I also feel that thanks to the new paint and some fresh landscaping
